What your family actually pays
Yale uses a sliding scale tied to family income. Here’s what families at different income levels typically pay:
Zero expected parent contribution. Yale covers tuition, housing, and meals. You contribute only ~$3,700 from part-time on-campus work. About 1 in 5 first-year students is at this level.
Parent contribution starts at ~1% of income and scales gradually. Many families in this range still see tuition fully covered by grants, paying only a portion of room and board.
Contribution increases toward 20% of income. Significant aid remains available. Grants reduce total costs substantially from the sticker price.
Aid may still be available, especially for families with multiple children in college, high medical expenses, or below-average assets. There is no hard income cutoff.
Yale evaluates every family individually. Circumstances like currency instability, business losses, or extended family obligations are considered.

PhD programs — fully funded
All PhD students at Yale receive full funding regardless of citizenship. For 2025–2026, this includes:

- 12-month living stipend — minimum $50,777/year
- Comprehensive health insurance including hospitalization
- Coverage for a minimum of 5 years
- Average total value: $500,000+ over the degree
Professional schools
Yale Law School and Yale School of Medicine offer substantial need-based aid. Yale School of Management (MBA) provides need-based grants and merit scholarships — international students are eligible for all institutional aid.
Master’s programs in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences generally do not include university funding. Check your specific program directly.
How to apply for financial aid
Primary form: CSS Profile
International students apply via the CSS Profile (College Board). Yale’s CSS Profile code is 3987. You can enter finances in your home currency — no USD conversion required.
Supporting documents (via IDOC)

- English translations (unofficial is fine)
